My son whose 1 likes to learn things the hard way. He learned he can’t fly while stepping off chairs. He learned that wet tile and no shoes don’t really mix. He learned that the wall is not going to move and no matter how fast you run your not going to be able to go through it. He has also learned that you can’t touch fire and not get burned. When you look at the proverbs one of the continuing themes is don’t believe the lie that sex outside the marriage bed is going to bring you happiness. It won’t. It never will. This connotation with fire is mentioned in Proverbs 6:27 “Can a man carry fire next to his chest and his clothes not be burned?” It is silly to think that we can lay on top of the fire for a period of time and not get burned. In this world we live in we are bombarded by sex outside of marriage all day. Movies, TV, magazines, internet, books, what have you. But really the thought process here is how can we indulge in this filth and then say man I’m not going to get burned. When it comes down to it how can a person live in sexual purity when they continually place images in their mind of immorality. We can’t touch the fire and not get burned.
