We take care of every facet of our physical bodies from our hair to our toes, we go all out. We even pay for people to make sure our toes (mostly covered) are taken care of. We do the pedicure thing, the toenails, and I’ve even seen someone rub some type of sandpaper contraption to get the dead skin off. I’m just getting started, no really to keep our bodies in tip top shape and looking good is a lot of work There is exercising, eating right, vitamins, skincare, eye care, dental care, hair care, and that’s just for your body. What about clothes and accessories? Really, don’t get me started on shopping for clothes and accessorizing. Let’s just say we spend a lot of time and money so we can take care of our bodies. How much time do you spend on taking care of the Spirit inside you? Think about that for a minute. The reason I was thinking about this was I was on a spiritual retreat. It means I got away and spent some time with the Lord just me and Him. I was thinking how refreshing it was to take care of the Spirit. I was thinking my goodness how good does it feel to really take the time to invest in my Spirit. The Bible tells us God gives us the Holy Spirit and Rom 8:11 tells us the Holy Spirit dwells in you. It also tells us “The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, (Rom 8:16). There is a communication factor between our Spirit and the Holy Spirit and Paul tells us the goal is that our spirit is in line with the Holy Spirit in such a way they become one. 1 Corinthians 6:17 “But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him.” Our Spirit can become so dry and thirsty and neglected that we can lose sync with the Holy Spirit that lives inside of us. Let’s take care of our Spirit just as we would our bodies. Let us not neglect what is on the inside as this world constantly tells us to focus on what is outside.
